On this tour you will explore one of the most beautiful and evocative Roman villas, Villa Torlonia, and the nearby Coppedè neighborhood.
You will be met at your hotel and accompanied to Villa Torlonia by your personal driver. The villa, is famous for being chosen as one of Benito Mussolini's residences. It represents one of the natural green areas of the capital where you can admire and visit the enchanting and characteristic buildings. They include the astonishing Casina delle Civette (House of the Owls). It was inspired by the Medieval period, and is striking because of its particular architecture, its semi-Baroque decorations and wrought iron and stain glass details. Also worth visiting are the casino nobile and its "younger brothers": the Finti Ruderi ( False Ruins) , the Tempio di Saturno (Temple of Saturn) , and the Finta Tomba Etrusca (False Etruscan Tomb). And finally, within the villa, you will be able to enjoy an excellent lunch in a magnificent restaurant where the chef has prepared a special menu for you. After lunch your driver will take you to the Coppedè neighborhood, named after the Italian architect, Gino Coppedè, who designed it. This is a lesser known area of the city, however, very representative of Roman nineteenth century architecture. This characteristic architecture and the surreal atmosphere of this unique neighborhood inspired Dario Argento (an Italian film director, producer and screenwriter in the horror film genre) for the setting of the film "L'uccello dalla piume di cristallo"( The Bird with the Crystal Plumage). Many stories are enclosed within every corner, building and fountain in this neighborhood, which your guide will expertly illustrate to you. At the end of the visit, your driver will be happy to accompany you back to your hotel, or if you prefer, to Rome's center where you may continue to enjoy your evening.
