This tour is designed for lovers of fine wines and those interested in exploring several beautiful towns in Tuscany.

Day 1

Upon arrival at your boutique hotel, La Lupaia, situated in the heart of the province of Siena just a few kilometers from Montepulciano, you will find yourself surrounded by the beautiful Tuscan countryside. You are welcome to take advantage of some free time, and either walk on one of the many nearby paths, or if you prefer you can relax comfortably by the magnificent pool that offers a breathtaking view of the Sienese hills. Dinner will be served at the hotel and you can sample their array of unique Tuscan dishes, prepared with organic, homegrown and local products.

Day 2

After a delicious breakfast of pastries, cheeses and many other local products, your driver will take you to Val D'Orcia to begin your wine tasting tour. This area produces some of the most famous wines in the world including the Brunello di Montalcino and the Nobile di Montepulciano. First stop will be the famous Biondi Santi Winery, the establishment where the "Brunello" was first produced and certified in 1874. Here your wine steward, Cristina, will illustrate the history of the Brunello and how, still today, it is produced using original techniques. You will taste 4 types of wine, including the rare Biondi Santi Riserva Brunello. The tour continues on to the village of Montalcino where you can admire the town's famous ancient fortress, which offers a magnificent view of the Tuscan hills.
You will then depart for another winery that produces the Brunello di Montalcino. In addition to producing a first class wine, an interesting feature of this estate is that it is run completely by women, traditionally an unusual philosophy for a winery. Here you will visit one of the antique rooms of the farmhouse to taste 3 types of DOCG wines (controlled designation of origin guaranteed) where, naturally, the star is the Brunello.
The tour concludes with a visit to a winery whose signature product is famous throughout the world: the Nobile di Montepulciano, also known by the Tuscans as "the true table wine". You will also taste 4 other types of wine, including their exceptional Asinone Riserva. Later when you have returned to your accommodation, you will be free to relax before having dinner in-house.

Day 3

After breakfast you will be picked up and taken to the Abbey of Sant'Antimo, where you will meet your guide who will reveal all the secrets of one of the oldest monasteries in Italy, dating back to AD 352. Here you will be able to see the service that is still sung in Gregorian and Latin. The tour continues on to Pienza, a World Heritage Site, where together with your guide you will be able to admire this charming village and its numerous churches and beautiful Duomo.
After your tour, you will return to your hotel where you can relax after having seen so much history and beauty.

Day 4

After checkout in the late morning, Dragonfly Tours can arrange transfers to the airport or rail station or suggest another of our "Italy Mini Tours"
