On this tour you will explore one of the most beautiful and historically significant towns in Italy: Assisi.
Your driver will pick you up from your hotel, heading north to the magnificent region of Umbria, the only Italian region that doesn't border the sea. Known for its breathtaking scenery and quaint villages, the region is steeped in history and culture. Upon arrival in Assisi, you will meet your guide and together you will discover many of the hidden treasures of this town. Assisi was the birthplace of St. Francis who gave up his worldly possessions and founded the Order of Franciscans in AD 1208.You will begin your tour at the Roman Forum, an area of historical significance and well-preserved Roman remains. You will then visit the Cathedral of San Rufino with its façade in Umbrian Romanesque style. It is included as one of the ancient Roman temples and today is the "Duomo of Assisi".After this you will walk to the magnificent Basilica of San Francesco, which (since AD 1230) preserves the Saint's remains. With its medieval artworks by Giotto and Cimabue, the church is a Unesco World Heritage Site.Lunch will be served at one of Assisi's most famous restaurants, built upon an ancient Roman settlement. You will be able to indulge in dishes prepared from authentic ingredients and accompanied by a selection of local wines.After this memorable experience your driver will return you to your hotel.
