Day 1 - Palermo: ARRIVAL DAY
Arrival at Palermo airport. Pick up by private English speaking driver and transfer to Grand Hotel Piazza Borsa 4* for 3 nights. Accommodation in Deluxe room Overnight at the hotel Grand Hotel Piazza Borsa 4*
Day 2 - Food Market, Cooking class & Palermo Tour
This morning you will tour the Capo Market with a Duchess in a fascinating exploration of Sicilian culture and cuisine. The itinerary begins with a morning visit to the Capo market, the oldest in Palermo, where we will purchase fresh seasonal ingredients, chosen from the colorful stalls featuring an abundance of fruit, vegetables, seafood and meats as the sellers’ cries bid for our attention. Following the market tour, you will go with the Duchess to her seaside Palazzo (Palace) for a hands on cooking lesson. Lunch will be served with the Duchess and her husband the Duke). After lunch they will take you through the splendor of the exquisite and beautifully restored 18th century palazzo by the sea. This was the last home of Prince Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, author of the world-famous novel “The Leopard”. During the afternoon meet you guide to visit Palermo and Monreale. Palermo, stretches along a beautiful bay on the Tyrrhenian Sea. Founded by the Phoenicians in the 7th and 8th centuries B.C., it was conquered by Arabs in 831, and a period of immense prosperity commenced. The city’s wide boulevards, traditional Sicilian Old Quarter, and baroque palaces’ll enchant you. We will visit the Royal Palace and the twelfth-century Duomo (Cathedral). Then drive to Monreale to admire the wonderful Cloister. Return at hotel and overnight stay.
Day 3– Segesta - Erice (B, Pastry Tasting)
In the morning, we will head to Segesta, for the guided Tour of the Temple and the Tether. You will continue to Erice, a magical, medieval town perched atop Monte San Giuliano overlooking the city of Trapani, the Egadi Islands and the famous saltpans where sea salt is made. The views from this mountain top village are breathtaking, and on a clear day, you can see the African coast. Visit the Norman Castle and Duomo as you walk through the cobble-stoned streets of the town, taking in the fresh air and a variety of aromas emanating from the numerous pastry shops for which Erice is known. In fact, we will stop to visit Maria Grammatico’s famous pastry shop to see the variety of sweets she lovingly creates. After visit return in Palermo. Overnight stay in Palermo
Day 4– Regaleali Estate and Valley of The Temples (B, L)
Breakfast and check out. Leave to Regaleali Estate, the famous estate of the Tasca d’Almerita family located in the center of the island. Eight generations of the Tasca family have been involved in the creation of some of Italy’s best wines from 500 hectares of land in the heart of Sicily. The Tasca family will host us for three nights at their historic estate where they lavish care on their guests by sharing their history, wine, and authentic Sicilian cuisine. Lunch with wine tasting and visit of the estate and winery . After lunch will transfer to Agrigento to admire the superb archaeological park, the Valley of the Temples. If there is one thing to see in all of Sicily, Agrigento’s stunning temples would be it. Private guided tour of the Valley of the Temples. We will visit all of the iconic temples including Juno, Concord, and Castor and Pollux. Overnight stay at Hotel Villa Athena 5*L, classic room in Agrigento.
Day 5– Sicily and Modica (B, L, Chocolate tasting)
Breakfast in hotel and depart towards the Baroque area of Sicily, whose heritage, both for importance and for beauty, has been de-clared World Heritage by UNESCO. Arrival in Scicli and visit at GLI AROMI Farm with the owner Enrico. From over 10 years “GLI AROMI” deals with the production and marketing of officinal plants and aromatic herbs, focusing on endemic species of the Sicilian coast and in particular of the Iblean area. The firm produces more than 120 different varieties using traditional methods; the workmanship of the herbs still happens manually, all in a unique contest, made of exiting perfumes in a magnificent view. Even Andy Luotto has been comed to visit them… The tour includes a ride in the firm illustrating all the varieties of the herbs and their possible using. Lunch and tasting at farm. In the afternoon transfer to Modica, where admire picturesque lanes and arrows streets, with plenty of old workshops, St. George’s Church, the only one including a nave and as good as four aisles. You will visit the oldest confectionary shop of Sicily and taste the very famous chocolate of Modica. Meeting with the owner Pierpaolo Ruta to discover the secrets of Modican Chocolate. The chocolate of Modica is special and very particular because of the lack of cacao butter, the only ingredients are cacao and sugar. Day 6– Siracusa (B, L)
Breakfast in hotel and meet your guide for a Tour of Siracusa that was the most important Greek cities of antiquity and a formidabile seafaring power nearly equal to Athens. In the heyday of its power, it dared to take on both Carthage and Rome. At one time, its wealth and size were unmatched by any other city in the ancient world, and today it is one of the richest historical sites in Europe. We’ll see remarkable Greek and Roman ruins, including the cave called “The Ear of Dionysius,” because of its unusual shape, resembling a human ear. Finally we will enjoy the elegant island of Ortigya, where we will admire the architectural splendour of ancient medieval streets, baroque structures, and classic churches as the Duomo, built upon the old temple of Athena A very special lunch tasting of typical Sicilian products (salumi, cheese and caponata) will be served in a historic delicatessen. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy shopping (transfer not included during the afternoon). Overnight stay in Syracusa.
Day 7— Catania and Cyclops Coast (B)
We will depart to Catania situated between the Ionian Sea and the looming bulk of Mount Etna, which every so often rains ash upon the streets. The town was rebuilt in the Baroque style, and it was during this era that many of the town’s finest buildings were constructed. You will visit the ebullient Pescheria, (the daily fish and vegetable market). Then we visit the towns of Acireale, and Aci Castello, with its Medieval Norman Castle built in 1076 on a prehistoric basalt lava terrace. Here we will admire the Rocks of the Cyclops, imposing, spiky shards of black lava that rise up from the water. It is here, as told in Homer’s Odyssey, that the Cyclops Polyphemus threw these rocks at the fleeing Ulysses, who had blinded him. This afternoon we will arrive in Taormina, accommodation at The Ashbee Hotel 5*in Superior room and overnight stay.
Day 8– Free day in Taormina
Check out and leave to Taormina. Time at Leisure in Taormina Sicily’s most famous city. Dating from the fourth and third centuries B.C.,Taormina is perched dramatically high on a rocky promontory overlooking the Ionian Sea. It’s a charming medieval town with typical cobblestoned streets leading into spacious squares and the extraordinary classical Greco-Roman theatre and the historical centre. (services not included). Day 9- Taormina –Exclusive 500 Tour “Etna Wine Roads and
After breakfast your own Fiat 500 car will be waiting for you to start this memorable one day tour of Sicily. Sicily is famous all around the world for its wine production. In the last ten years, many Sicilian wines have won prestigious awards. Mt. Etna is well known as a wine production area due to his extremely fertile soil since the 8th century BC when the first Greek settlers arrived. Follow your tour leader car to discover the Etna wine roads. You will drive a fantastic Classic Convertible Fiat 500 across the vineyards and cellars on the slopes of the highest volcano of Europe and enjoy the taste of Sicilian wines! Starting from Taormina / Giardini Naxos travel along roads secondary to reach the valley of Alcantara. After a brief tour of the Alcantara Gorges, the tour will continue through the villages of Castiglione di Sicilia and Lingfield. during the path will be made of the short stop to take some beautiful panoramic photographs. The tour will then continue through the "Wine Route": path you climbs from Lingfield until higher elevations of the volcano where you are most wineries of the place. Once in one of the finest wineries will make a short visit of the cellar and then we could taste the wines of the area accompanied by some typical local cuisine. At the end of the tasting tour will resume to Taormina / Giardini Naxos, where will end our excursion. overnight stay in Taormina
Day 10–Taormina / Catania / DEPARTURE
After breakfast and check out at your hotel, your personal driver with a private minivan will transfer you to Catania airport for your flight back home.
